Rebels Roughed Up On The Road Against California Baptist

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV baseball team (14-14) suffered a 19-3 run-rule setback against California Baptist (17-12) on Monday afternoon at James W. Totman Stadium to end their road trip.

Dean Toigo put the Hustlin' Rebels up 1-0 in the top of the first inning with his team-high ninth home run of the season, but the game quickly swung in the Lancers' favor when their offense erupted for a 13-run first inning. The 13 first-inning runs for the Lancers are the most in its Division I era.

HOW IT WENT DOWN: After Toigo's first-inning solo home run, California Baptist handled business in the bottom of the frame on a trio of bases loaded walks, a grand slam, a two-run home run, an RBI single, a stolen base of home and an RBI double. The Lancers brought a total of 16 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first inning. Two more Lancer runs came home in the bottom of the fourth inning after Mason Dillow gave up a two-out RBI single and Cody Albright came in relief, giving up a two-run home run to make it a 16-1 contest. The top of the sixth inning saw UNLV's Dwight Allen II belt his first home run of the season. The Scarlet & Gray had an opportunity to cut the deficit to 10 runs with two runners on base, but Chase Ditmar flew out to center field to end the top of the sixth. California Baptist's Andrew Walters brought home his fifth run of the contest with a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the sixth inning. Additionally, the Lancers brought home its 18th run of the game on an infield single and the 19th and final run on a hit by pitch.
