Emmanuel Stephen To Join Men's Basketball Program

Former four-star Top 100 recruit originally from Nigeria is transferring to the Runnin' Rebels from the University of Arizona.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's basketball program has received a signed commitment from Emmanuel Stephen (pronounced "STEFF-in" to join the Runnin' Rebels for the 2025-26 season, head coach Josh Pastner announced Tuesday.

Stephen, who is a 7-foot, 230-pound center originally from Lagos, Nigeria, is transferring to UNLV from the University of Arizona where he played as a freshman during the 2024-25 season.

He played his senior season of high school at Dream City Christian in Glendale, Ariz., where he was a four-star Top 100 recruit.

"Emmanuel is a great young man with a legitimate 7-foot frame and impressive length," Pastner said. "His shot-blocking ability, rim protection and rebounding will be extremely valuable for us. His defensive presence will also create fast-break opportunities for us to run. We are very excited to have him join the Runnin' Rebel family."

Stephen only started playing basketball in 2019 and spent some time at the NBA Academy Africa prior to arriving in the United States. On the AAU circuit, he played for Paul George Elite. At the 2023 Peach Jam, he averaged 3.8 blocks per game on his way to being named defensive MVP of the tournament. He also averaged 7.0 points and 9.8 rebounds per contest.

Out of high school, he chose to play at Arizona over Kansas, Miami (Fla.), Michigan and USC.

Stephen joins Mason Abittan and Tyrin Jones as incoming players to the Runnin' Rebel program for the 2025-26 season. James Evans Jr. and Jacob Bannarbie have also committed to return to the program from last season's roster.
