LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's tennis team opened its 2026 dual-match season with a quick 7-0 win over Weber State on a gorgeous late-January Friday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Rebels won two doubles matches to take the opening point.
Hudson Hawkins and
Nikol Mircheva downed Savannah Johnson and Nataly Valdivia Rojas, 6-2, at the No. 2 spot before
Kaho Oyama and Sofia Sokolvak clinched it with a 6-3 win over Naomi Johnson and Paulina Aleksandrowicz on court three.
In singles play, Hawkins rolled past Johnson, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 3;
Eszter Kis-Czako downed Aleksandrowicz, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 4; Oyama defeated Aleks Bozinovska, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 5;
Adi Bitton got by Naomi Johnson, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 6; Mircheva fought off Maggie Song, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 2 and
Veronika Kliuch closed things with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Jessica Hill at the top spot in the lineup.
REBEL OF THE MATCH: Hawkins was the first to finish in both singles and doubles in her debut dual match with her hometown team. The junior, who graduated from Silverado High School, transferred to UNLV from Montana State.
UP NEXT: UNLV is back on the courts Saturday when its hosts Utah Tech starting with doubles play at 10 a.m. Admission to all matches at Fertitta Tennis Complex is free of charge.
