LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's tennis team finished the weekend a combined 21-0 in team points after another 7-0 shutout on Sunday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex, this time over Youngstown State.
The Rebels improved to 3-0 while the Penguins fell to 3-3.
The hosts won two doubles matches to take the opening point.
Kaho Oyama and
Sofiia Sokolvak downed Yeseniia Ovcharova and Lydia Foster, 6-1, on court three before
Hudson Hawkins and
Nikol Mircheva downed Lorena Cedeno and Line Greyling by the same score at the second spot.
In singles play,
Veronika Kliuch beat Hanna Telzynska, 7-5, 6-3, at the top of the lineup; Mircheva defeated Cedeno, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 2; Hawkins rallied to use a super-tiebreaker in getting past Ovcharova, 6-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-2) at No. 3;
Eszter Kis-Czako eased by Yoana Dudova, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 4; Oyama rolled past Greyling, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 5; and
Adi Bitton closed out the day with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 win over Foster on court six.
REBEL OF THE MATCH: Oyama improved to 6-2 in singles and 7-2 in doubles in her sophomore season with two more quick victories.
UP NEXT: UNLV hosts Iowa State from the Big 12 Conference on Friday starting with doubles play at 10 a.m. Admission to all matches at Fertitta Tennis Complex is free of charge.
