LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV baseball junior second baseman Marcos Rosales was named Mountain West Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. The award is the first conference weekly honor of the season for the Scarlet & Gray and the first of Rosales' career.
The Hustlin' Rebels (17-11, 2-4 MW) claimed the season series over San Jose State, winning two out of the three games last weekend. Additionally, the Scarlet & Gray battled against No. 22 Arizona State last Monday night at the Las Vegas Ballpark, ultimately falling 12-11. Rosales went 10-for-18 with a 1.111 slugging percentage, a .556 batting average, a .618 on-base percentage with 15 RBI, nine runs scored, three home runs, one double, 20 total bases and three walks.
Against No. 22 Arizona State, the West Covina, California native went 2-for-5 with a grand slam and single with two runs scored and five total bases, along with an #SCTop10 worthy behind-the-back double play at second base. In the series opener against San Jose State, the junior hit a pair of home runs, going 4-for-5 with six RBI, 10 total bases, two singles and four runs scored.
In game two against SJSU, Rosales went 2-for-3 with one double, one single, three walks and scored two runs on three RBI. In the series finale, he recorded a pair of singles (2-for-5) with two RBI and scored one run.
