Rebs Bounce Boise State To Reach Ninth Straight MW Final

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The 72nd-ranked UNLV women's tennis team will play in its ninth consecutive Credit Union 1 Mountain West Championship after ending No. 67 Boise State's conference stay with a 4-1 semifinal victory at the Darling Tennis Center on Friday.

The Rebels won their sixth straight outing to improve to 19-3 overall while the Broncos ended their season at 19-4.

Head Coach Tetiana Luzhanska's squad seized the momentum by taking two of three doubles matches for a 1-0 lead. Eszter Kis-Czako and Veronika Kliuch downed Stella Beldiman and Paula Schaefer, 6-2, at the second spot before Kaho Oyama and Sofiia Sokolvak outlasted Carla Grignac and Lorelyz Marruffo, 7-5, on court six.

Moving to singles, the Rebels won first sets on four of six courts. Sokolvak was done first, 6-3, 6-2, over Grignac at No. 6. MW Player of the Year Kliuch then made it 3-0 with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Zdena Safarova at the top spot to up her record to an eye-popping 25-2 overall and 18-0 in dual matches. For the second consecutive day, Oyama would secure the fourth and final point, this time with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Schaefer on court five.

UP NEXT: UNLV, which has reached more MW finals than any other school (16), will face top-seeded and 57th-ranked San Diego State in Saturday's title match starting with doubles play at 11 a.m. The top two programs in league history have met each other in the final five previous times, with the Rebels taking three. Both teams, along with Boise State, tied for this year's regular-season crown with 10-1 records and Saturday's winner will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
