LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV baseball redshirt senior Nin Burns II has been named the Raising Cane's Outstanding Rebel of the Week, the school announced Wednesday.
Burns II earned the recognition for the first time this season, while it's also the baseball team's second of the year.
The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletics Strategic Communications department. Additionally, he was named the Mountain West Player of the Week.
A native of Covina, California, Burns II helped the Rebels win two out of three games against the regular season champions San Diego State to earn the No. 6 seed at the MW Championship. He batted .583 (7-for-12) with two home runs, one double, four RBI and four runs scored. Additionally, Burns II recorded a 1.167 slugging percentage and a .583 on-base percentage.
In the series opener against the Aztecs, he went 1-for-3 with a single. In game two, Burns II went 2-for-4, hitting his ninth home run of the season and adding a single. To close out the series, he went 4-for-5 with three RBI, one double, two singles, three runs scored and his 10th home run of the season.
