OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. (UNLVRebels.com) – Behind under-par final scorecards, three UNLV men's golf individuals placed in the top 25 as the season-opening Fighting Illini Invitational hosted by Illinois wrapped up Saturday at Olympia Fields Country Club's South Course (par 70, 7,215 yards).

REBEL ROUNDUP: Atop the Rebel lineup, sophomore Aaron Van Hauwe picked up a tied-for-19th finish with a 7-under 203 for the tournament. Joining him as part of the Scarlet & Gray leading trio, seniors Ryan Abuan (69-66-69) and Zach Little (70-68-66) tied for 23rd at 6-under 204. Also competing, junior Avery Lazarski (+2) tied for 65th and senior Mason Snyder (+1) tied for 70th.

As a team, UNLV placed 11th at 19-under 821 in a strong 15-team field that featured five top-10 and 12 top-25 programs in the Bushnell/Golfweek Preseason Coaches Poll. Among the nationally ranked teams they landed ahead of were No. 16 Texas A&M in 13th and No. 20 Florida State in 14th.

FINAL ROUND: The Rebels shot under par for the third straight round, carding a 5-under 275 on the final 18 holes with three under-par individual rounds. Little saved his best score of the tournament for last with a final-round 4-under 66. He was followed in the day's scoring by Van Hauwe's 2-under 68, Abuan's 1-under 69 and Lazarski's 2-over 72.

SECOND-ROUND FINISH: Upon resumption of Friday's delayed second round, the Scarlet & Gray ended up carding its best round of the weekend at 12-under 268. Every player in the Rebel lineup shot under par in round two, including 4-under 66 scorecards from Van Hauwe and Abuan, a 2-under 68 from Little and Snyder, along with Lazarski's 1-under 69.

TEAM & INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONS: Arizona State grabbed the team title at 40-under 800 for a two-shot edge over Illinois. Sharing individual medalist honors were Texas Tech's Ben Gregg, Georgia Tech's Max Emberson, ASU's Connor Williams and the Fighting Illini's Max Herenden each at 13-under 197.

UP NEXT: The Rebels continue their fall season at New Mexico's William H. Tucker Invitational scheduled for Sept. 25-26.
