2006 NCAA Participant

2005-06 (Junior): Turned in a breakout season for the Rebels as he swam on all three of UNLV[apos]s MWC Championships freestyle relays (200, 400, 800), and then anchored the Rebels[apos] 200 free relay that took ninth place at the NCAA Championships, earning honorable mention All-America honors ... scored in all three individual events at the MWC meet as well, with a seventh-place finish in the 100 free (45.51), a 10th-place time in the 200 free (1:40.25), and a 12th-place finish in the 50 free (20.88) ... holds the seventh-fastest time in UNLV history in the 200 free with a 1:39.02.

2004-05 (Sophomore): Rebels[apos] top 200 freestyler, taking third at the MWC Championships in a time of 1:39.17 ... anchored UNLV[apos]s MWC championship 400 free relay and led off the 800 free relay that finished in third.

2003-04 (Freshman): Led off the Rebels[apos] fourth place 800 free relay at the MWCs and anchored the second-place 400 free relay ... placed seventh in the 200 free (1:41.38), 10th in the 100 free (46.07) and 12th in the 50 free (21.34).

High School: Helped his team to three-straight state championships ... took first and set a state record in the 50 free in 2002 ... also holds state records in the 200 medley relay and the 200 and 400 free relays ... named first team all-district his freshman year ... named Idaho State Swimmer of the Year in 2002 ... team captain his senior year.

Personal: John Louis Byers ... born on July 17, 1985, in Moscow, Idaho ... son of John and Karen Byers ... has one sister, Anna (23) ... majoring in geology ... considers his former coach, Emily Melina, to be the greatest influence on his athletic career.
