Dickerson Named Associate AD For Development

LAS VEGAS - Diane Dickerson has been hired as the Associate Athletics Director for Development at UNLV, athletics director John Robinson announced Monday.

Dickerson joins UNLV Athletics after spending more than 25 years in the marketing and advertising profession. For 13 years, she was owner and partner of Merica Dickerson Advertising and Public Relations in Las Vegas, which became the second largest advertising agency in the state of Nevada. At Merica Dickerson, she oversaw the advertising and marketing activities of more than 50 of Nevada's most successful businesses.

Dickerson sold her share of the agency in 1988 and has served as an independent marketing and business consultant since that time, which includes 16 months in Coronado, Calif., consulting various companies.

"We are excited about Diane Dickerson's decision to join our program," Robinson said. "She is known for her marketing and advertising expertise in Las Vegas and that will help her become an important part of UNLV's future. She brings to us a refreshing vitality and will help us in connecting with the community as well as being an important figure throughout campus."

Before becoming a part of Merica Dickerson, Dickerson was vice president and account supervisor for Dailey & Associates in Los Angeles, director of advertising and communications for United Banks of Colorado in Denver, product marketing manager for Citicorp in New York and Denver, and assistant public relations director for the National Soft Drink Association in Washington, D.C. She obtained her bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Utah in 1977.

Dickerson has been highly active in the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce for more than 16 years and was chairman of the organization in 1997. Her involvement has included serving on the executive committee, serving as vice chairman of marketing, chairman of the strategic planning committee, a past prospector and chairman of the membership campaign. She is also the recipient of the Circle of Excellence Award given to members of the Chamber for outstanding service. She was named Agency Executive of the Year and was inducted into the Advertising Hall of Fame.

Dickerson gives a great deal of time back to the community and has received many awards for her involvement. She is currently a board member of Desert Research Institute, Las Vegas Events, Opportunity Village, Classroom on Wheels and the Keystone Organization. She is a past chairman of the University Medical Center Foundation and served as chairman of the Children's Miracle Network Telethon, which has raised millions of dollars to improve children's health care in Southern Nevada.

Dickerson has also served on the Board of Directors of the Lied Discovery Children's Museum, the National Conference, Coalition 2000 and numerous other community organizations. In addition, she has donated many hours to organizations such as Assistance League of Southern Nevada, Boys and Girls Club, Big Bothers Big Sisters, Boy and Girl Scouts and the Public Education Foundation.

Dickerson is the mother of three children, Daniel, 13, Michelle, 10, and Jaclyn, 7.
