A Dozen Rebels Earn Academic All-WAC

LAS VEGAS - A total of 12 UNLV student-athletes, including a school-best five from the football program, earned Academic All-Western Athletic Conference honors for the 1998 fall sports, the league announced.

The football players were (presented in academic year) senior Brandon Ellena, juniors John Greer, Blake Livingood and Tim O'Reilly and sophomore Kawika Batoon. All but Livingood also were on last year's academic team.

UNLV featured three representatives from women's cross country in Katie Barto, Angie Fortner and repeat honoree Eulista Clemons.

Seniors Angela Parchomenko and Jennifer Wintermute from the women's soccer team and senior Ryan Bledsoe and sophomore Paul Lunkwitz of men's soccer rounded out the Rebel contingent.

To be selected, student-athletes must have completed one academic year, maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or better and have participated in 50 percent of their team's contests.
