LAS VEGAS - Erik Munson has been hired as UNLV's new strength and conditioning assistant coordinator,
the school announced Wednesday.
Munson had served as assistant strength coach at the University of North Texas for the
past five years, working closely with all 15 Division I sports at the Denton, Texas,
school.
"We'll be a better program because of the addition of Erik Munson," UNLV director of
strength and conditioning Mark Philippi said. "He has a tremendous football background but
he also has excellent experience in all sports on the collegiate level. He helps make us a
well-rounded department."
Prior to joining the Eagles, Munson served as the outside linebackers coach at Portland
State University. He also had brief coaching stints at the University of New Mexico and
Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Mont.
A 1989 graduate of Montana Tech, he earned his master's degree in sports administration
from New Mexico in 1992.
Munson replaced John Binkowski, who left last month to be head strength coach at Northern
Illinois University.
