National Student-Athlete Day

April 2, 2002

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV Athletic Department invites all 1st - 8th grade students to the inaugural National Student-Athlete Day, to be held Saturday, April 6 on the UNLV campus. National Student-Athlete Day is America's way to celebrate the contributions of student-athletes to the greater society.

Established 11 years ago by Sport in Society and the NCAS, National Student-Athlete Day is now co-sponsored by the NCAA along with its hundreds of collegiate institutions across the country. Celebrated on April 6, National Student-Athlete Day was designed to acknowledge the accomplishments of student-athletes in the classroom, on the playing field and in their communities. It also was created to recognize parents, teachers, coaches and school systems that make it possible for young people to find balance between academics and athletics.

This year, UNLV invites all students in grades 1st-8th to join the UNLV student-athletes, coaches and administration for a day filled with free camps and clinics, academic guidance, guest speakers, free lunch, T-shirts and much more. After the lunch, UNLV also invites all participants and their families to watch the softball team take on San Diego State at 3:30 p.m. Admission to the game will be free.

If you are interested in attending National Student-Athlete Day, please contact Associate Athletics Director Eric Toliver at (702) 895-1314.

Check-in will be from 8:30 - 9:00 a.m. at the Peter Johann Memorial Soccer Field. The event will last from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with lunch served at 12:30 p.m.
