Ban Named Outstanding Rebel Of The Week

April 19, 2018
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) -  UNLV men's golf senior Shintaro Ban  has been named the Outstanding Rebel of the Week  presented by Air Force Reserve, the school announced Wednesday. This marks the third time during the 2017-18 season Ban has earned the honor.

The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from  Monday  through  Sunday  as voted on by the UNLV Athletic Communications department.

Ban, a San Jose, California, native, finished in a tie for first at last week's ASU Thunderbird Invitational to capture his third individual title of the season and fourth of his career. His performance also helped the Rebels take second after finishing just one shot back of host and No. 22 Arizona State. The senior shot 11-under for the tournament after three rounds in the 60s at the event, including a second-round-low 7-under 64 on Saturday. Over the Thunderbird Invite's 54 holes, Ban recorded 17 birdies and an eagle, while his tie for first place marked his 10th top-20 finish of the season in 11 total events, his seventh top-10 and fifth top-five.

Ban was named the Mountain West Men's Golfer of the Week for the sixth time in his career and fifth time this season.
Next up for Ban and the Rebels is the Mountain West Championship, April 20-22, in Bremerton, Washington, where they will be looking for their third straight conference title.
