Howard Named Outstanding Rebel Of The Week

May 2, 2018
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) -  UNLV track and field sophomore Mackenna Howard  has been named the Outstanding Rebel of the Week  presented by Air Force Reserve, the school announced Wednesday.

The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from  Monday  through  Sunday  as voted on by the UNLV Athletic Communications department.

Howard, from Los Alamitos, California, threw a personal- and program-best measurement of 54-4.75 (16.58m) to win the shot put at UC Irvine's Steve Scott Invitational last weekend. The distance was nearly two feet better than the 52-6.50 (16.01m) that she recorded eight days earlier at Azusa  Pacific's Bryan Clay Invitational. Howard now owns the second-best shot put mark in the MW this season, while the distance ranks 13th in the West Region and 19th nationally.

For her performance, Howard was named the Mountain West Field Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career.

Up next for Howard and the Rebels is the Mountain West Outdoor Championships in Clovis, California, which will run May 9-12.
