LAS VEGAS -
An idea promoting a fun, inexpensive and family-friendly atmosphere at UNLV Athletics events will become a reality this fall as the Family Fun Zone debuts at football and men's basketball home games, athletics director John Robinson announced Monday.
The UNLV Family Fun Zone is a total entertainment package for families in designated areas of Sam Boyd Stadium for football games and the Thomas & Mack Center for men's basketball games for one low price.
"Our future success depends on developing new fans -- building a base and a tradition," Robinson said. "The Family Fun Zone is a big step in that direction. We want to be a prime source of entertainment for a young family. Most of us who love sports started out being introduced to it in a family setting. My dad took me to a Chicago Cubs game when I was six and I was hooked for life. That's what we want to happen here. The Family Fun Zone ticket package is a great buy. We are going to focus on the environment around the area to address it to the needs of a family."
For football, the package includes:
* Four tickets to the game
* Four meals provided by Chefs for Kids, which will be available before the game at the Rebel Experience area
* Four giveaway items
* Special visits from the cheerleaders and UNLV mascot Hey Reb
* Additional family activities and promotions
The price of admission is $38 for a family of four. Each additional child under the age of 12 will cost an extra $6. There are 1,041 Family Fun Zone seats available for five of the six Rebel football home games (not available Aug. 31 vs. Wisconsin) in sections 233-235.
For men's basketball, the package includes:
* Four tickets to the game
* Four giveaway items
* Special visits from the cheerleaders and Hey Reb
* Additional family activities and promotions
The price of admission is $30 for a family of four. Each additional child under the age of 12 will cost an extra $5. There are 986 Family Fun Zone seats available for all Saturday regular-season Runnin' Rebel home games (except the Las Vegas Showdown and the Jim Thorpe Classic) in sections 220-223.
All Family Fun Zone sections are alcohol-free, will have additional security and Family Fun Zone ticket holders will have access to family-friendly restrooms.
