LAS VEGAS -
Mark Wasik has been hired as an assistant sports information director at UNLV, the athletics department announced Monday.
Wasik comes to Rebel athletics from the University of South Alabama where he was an assistant athletics media relations director for the past year. At USA, Wasik was responsible for the publicity efforts of the women's basketball, volleyball and men's and women's tennis teams. In addition, he was the webmaster for USA's in-house athletics department website.
Prior to his time at South Alabama, Wasik was an assistant sports information director at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro from 1999-2002, where he served as the primary contact for women's basketball, softball, volleyball and men's and women's golf. He was also the contact for women's soccer, men's and women's tennis and wrestling during his first two years in Greensboro.
The Chapel Hill, N.C., native earned his bachelor's degree in 1997 from Florida State University and earned his master's at the University of Tennessee in 1998. While attending both of those two schools, he was involved with the sports information departments.
After earning his master's degree, Wasik spent a year at Georgetown University as a sports information intern.
At UNLV, Wasik handles the daily media relations and sports information duties for women's basketball, men's and women's soccer and track & field and cross country.
Wasik replaces Marlene Navor, who spent two years in the UNLV office and left to take a similar position at Kansas State University.
