5. NEW BUSINESS A. Discussion: SAAB Committee Goals -Community Outreach: planning a hospital visit, date and time to be determined -Nutrition: elementary school visit; get trainer's phone number to create a list of popular over-the-counter products that contain banned substances, get this information out to student-athletes -Education: hand out study hall surveys, review them to see if increasing study hall availability would be beneficial to student- athletes; email newsletter

B. Discussion: SAAB Raffle -contact Wendy Meyers, establish date for the drawing, possibly November 16

C. Discussion: Etiquette Dinner -first week in December in MSU ballroom

3. ANNOUNCEMENTS -Football beat Kansas, 31-20 play OSU on TBS on 9-14 -Women's Soccer defeated Reno and Fresno State -Volleyball went 1-2 this weekend -Men's Soccer lost in double overtime against #18 Boston College -SAAB Raffle tentatively set for football game against Reno

4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Last Meeting (September 5, 2002, 6:00-8:00pm, 120 minutes)

5. NEW BUSINESS A. Discussion: Laptop Policy -Liability; student-athlete checking out laptop will be responsible for all costs in the event that a laptop is damaged, a registration hold will be issued until the value is secured -Athletes that want to use the computers are responsible for check-in and check-out.

B. Discussion: SAAB Committees -this year our focus will be on three committees -Community Service Membership: Julia Gray, Omari Pearson, Tony Terrell, Kristen Ryburn, Avi Salomon, Julie Mosman -Education Committee Membership: Jessica Zarndt, Tiffany Smith, Ryan Ruiz, Desiree Kelly, Women's Swimming, Men's Golf -Drug/Alcohol Committee Membership: Bridget Byrne, Shannon Chase, Hwanhee Lee, Ryan Cochrane, Men's Swimming, Women's Tennis -Each committee will have 2 projects per year, must decide two goals by next meeting

4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Last Meeting (July 10, 2002, 12:00-12:30pm, 30 minutes)

5. NEW BUSINESS A. Discussion: Laptop Computers Policies and Procedures -final draft to be attached later -ideas: the six laptops will be stored in ET's office, only teams that are traveling are permitted to check them out, 24 hours prior to travel more than one computer may be checked out by a traveling team if available, SAAB members are responsible for computer check-in and check-out, laptops to be returned the next working day, student- athletes will be unable to use the laptops if they do not attend orientation meeting (date and time to be determined), sign-in sheets and waivers

B. Discussion: Fall Fundraiser -will take place at UNLV football home game -inquire about possible donations from Wal-Mart (TV, digital camera) -raffle off prizes like equipment signed by coaches and players basketball, football, baseball), tickets to a contest

C. Discussion: SAAB Membership -enlarge board to two members per team

D. Discussion: SAAB Goals for 2002-2003 -get committees up and running, create newsletter - to be published once a month or once every three months? to be determined at next meeting on Sunday, September 8, 2002 -start thinking about Spring Fundraiser, National Student-Athlete Day

E. Discussion: Meeting Date and Time -meetings will occur every Sunday at 5:00pm in order to increase attendance

F. Discussion: Home Game Attendance -need to see more support from student-athletes at all home contest -Volleyball and Women's Soccer - home games this weekend
