LAS VEGAS -
The UNLV sports marketing department will launch the school's first marketing campaign geared specifically for the women's athletics programs at UNLV, the athletics department announced Wednesday.
"We are committed to taking all the right steps to maximizing the exposure and attendance for our women's sports events," UNLV athletics director Mike Hamrick said. "Through this campaign we are taking the first step in the right direction."
The campaign will utilize budgeted funds to provide the maximum community exposure for UNLV's 10 women's sports programs. The campaign will include radio, television and print advertising for targeted events and is being promoted by Infinity Broadcasting's 98.5 KLUC.
The campaign will target the youth of Las Vegas along with families and will use the tagline of "Good Kids Grow Up to be Rebels."
Collateral produced for the campaign includes posters, bookmarks and autograph books. The posters will be distributed in the community and at events, the bookmarks will be distributed at community relations events and local schools and the autograph books will be distributed to youth fans at the "sell out" events.
Each revenue women's sport will have one night selected as their "sell out" night and all advertising will be directed towards those nights. In addition, National Girls and Women in Sports Day will feature all of UNLV's women's sports.
"Our women's athletics events offer an exciting entertainment option at an affordable price to Las Vegas families," Hamrick said. "This campaign is a great avenue to get the word out to the community about women's athletics. I am very excited about it and looking forward to seeing more fans in the stands."
The selected "sell out" nights are volleyball vs. San Diego State on Sept. 26, soccer vs. UCLA on Oct. 3, basketball vs. San Diego State on Jan. 17, National Girls and Women in Sports Day on Feb. 7 and a softball game to be determined.
The National Girls and Women in Sports Day event will be held on the night of a basketball game and will also include a free three-hour clinic with all of UNLV's women's sports teams for kids 12-and-under. Kids will be invited to participate in this day camp atmosphere and rotate from team to team getting basic instruction on each sport (golf, tennis, cheerleading, softball, basketball, swimming, diving, cross country, track, soccer, volleyball and more). Kids will receive a free "Good Kids Grow Up to be Rebels" t-shirt.
The campaign kicks off this Friday, Sept. 26, as UNLV volleyball attempts to break its attendance record against San Diego State at 7 p.m. at the Cox Pavilion. Kids 12-and-under are free and the Rebel volleyball team will be signing autographs after the match. Student-athletes from various other sports will also be on hand to sign autographs before the match. The current attendance record of 1,251 was set against Hawaii at the South Gym in 1996.
This bookmark will be distributed at community relations events and local schools as part of the "Good Kids Grow Up to be Rebels" women's sports campaign.
