LAS VEGAS -
The UNLV Athletics Department will hold the 2000 Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Friday, October 6 at the MGM Grand Conference Center's Premier Ballroom beginning at 6:00 p.m.
This year's inductees are Bob Blum, Sally Fleisher-Ihmels, Trena Hull-Carhee, Pauline Jordan, Bart Pippenger, Lisa Thompson-Houston and the 1989-90 men's basketball team.
Headlining the prestigious group is the school's first national title squad - the 1989-90 Runnin' Rebel team that dominated its way to the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship.
Two UNLV sports are breaking into the hall for the first time with this class of individual honorees. Men's swimmer Bart Pippenger (1986-90) and women's swimmer Sally Fleisher (1984-88) are both the first from their programs to emerge from the water and earn entrance to the hall.
A pair of track standouts also helps make up the hall's newest contingent. National Champion Trena Hull (1985-87) took the 1987 NCAA 1000-meter title and Lisa Thompson (1979-83) was the first four-time All-American in UNLV athletics history.
One of only two UNLV women's basketball players with their numbers retired, Pauline Jordan (1987-90) joins the group as well as Bob Blum, who is the class' Distinguished Contributor. Blum, tabbed as the Dean of West Coast Broadcasters, is a longtime announcer and UNLV supporter.
"This class is special," Hall of Fame Committee Chairman Jerry Koloskie said. "It involves not only a great supporter and outstanding individuals who were groundbreakers in their respective sports, but also the school's most famous team, which was one of the most successful in college basketball history,"
Scheduled to be in attendance from the national championship squad are head coach Jerry Tarkanian, Travis Bice, Stacey Cvijanovich, coach Cleveland Edwards, Bryan Emerzian, Chris Jeter, Dave Rice and Moses Scurry.
The reception begins at 6:00 p.m. with dinner to follow at 7:00 p.m. The awards presentation is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. Individual tickets are $75 and a table of 10 may be purchased for $1,000. For tickets, please call Zach Smith at 895-4411.
