LAS VEGAS -
The UNLV football, men's basketball and volleyball teams will be participating in the Rotary Club's Santa Clothes, which takes place on Wednesday, December 6.
Following a trip to JCPenny's at local malls, over 90 underprivileged children from the Las Vegas valley will visit the UNLV campus where its student-athletes will play sports with the children for about an hour beginning at 10:00 a.m.
The children will begin at the Lied Gymnasium and will conclude at the university with lunch at the Lied Athletic Complex. During their time with the children, the UNLV student-athletes will be talking to the kids about the importance of staying in school, eating healthy foods and saying no to drugs.
Santa Clothes is being put on by six local chapters of the Rotary Club (Las Vegas, Las Vegas North, Henderson, Green Valley, Las Vegas Northwest and Las Vegas West). JCPenny's is opening early to allow the kids and club members a chance to shop for clothing. Each child will be allowed to pick out $125 worth of clothing as a Christmas gift, courtesy of the Rotary Club.
The lunch at the LAC will be provided by UNLV and paid for by the Rotary Club. In addition, JC Penny's is donating toys to the children, which they will receive at the conclusion of the day.
The participating children were selected through the recommendation of the Boy's and Girl's Club and the Salvation Army.
It will be mark the second year UNLV Athletics will be participating in the Santa Clothes program.
