Aaron Pauls is in his first full season as volunteer assistant coach for the UNLV men's golf program.
Pauls is a UNLV master's graduate that worked under the team's mental training consultant Dr. Mark Guadagnoli in the school's kinesiology department.
A native of Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada, Pauls came back to Las Vegas after serving as an assistant coach with the men's golf program at the University of the Fraser Valley in Abbotsford, B.C. The program is a perennial PACWEST power and has won multiple CCAA national titles.
Pauls was also a member of the UFV program as a student-athlete. As a walk-on in 2009, he won Rookie of the Year and went on to become a four-time team MVP at the school, culminating with All-Canadian recognition in 2013. He also received the Envision Annual Leadership Award in Athletics (2011-13) and was named an Academic All-Canadian recipient in 2013.
In his final season as a member of the team, Pauls was selected as team captain and led the Cascades to their first national title, where he earned individual silver medalist honors.
In 2014, Pauls became the first UFV golfer to compete for Team Canada in the World University Golf Championships. One year later, he again competed on the international stage, representing UFV and Canada at the FISU Summer Universiade in Gwangju, South Korea.
Pauls graduated from the kinesiology program at UFV in 2014, also earning Dean's List honors, then entered graduate school at UNLV. His research and studies were concentrated in the areas of motor behavior/learning and the optimization of human performance. Upon successfully defending his thesis, he graduated with a master's in kinesiology (motor behavior) from UNLV in December of 2016.
