Former Rebel great Geoffrey Ace Matias was named UNLV men's tennis assistant coach in September of 2018.
"It's great to welcome Ace back to the UNLV family," UNLV head coach Owen Hambrook said. "He always played tennis with such energy and passion and is a huge asset who will only make us a better team. Having someone on staff who played here and is very familiar with the ins and outs of the program, the campus and community is a huge plus."
After transferring from the University of Utah, Matias played No. 1 for the Rebels and earned All-Mountain West in both singles and doubles for three consecutive seasons from 2013-15.
A native of Torrance, California, Matias rose to as high as No. 76 in the nation in singles and was named MW Player of the Week six times over his three seasons in Las Vegas. After graduating with a degree in communications from UNLV in December 2015, Matias played professionally before joining the staff at BYU where he served as assistant coach for the women's program for two seasons.
