Former all-conference college player and Davis Cup competitor Slim Hamza was named UNLV men's tennis assistant by head coach Owen Hambrook in time for the 2016-17 season.

"We knew Slim as he was a top player in juniors and college and has a top tennis background," Hambrook said. "We are excited to have him at UNLV as he will make our program better."

Hamza was a member of the University of Utah tennis team from 2012-15 and earned a ranking as high as No. 37 in the nation in singles by the ITA. Named Pac-12 Conference Player of the Week four times, he was a second team All-Pac 12 selection for three consecutive seasons.

"It's an honor for me to represent the Rebels," Hamza said. "It's a great opportunity and Owen is a great coach to work for. They have a team coming off a championship season here and I am excited to get started."

A native of Tunisia, Africa, Hamza represented his home nation in the Davis Cup multiple times and reached as high as No. 69 in the ITF World Rankings.

A 2016 graduate of Utah, Hamza had served a student assistant for the Utes as well as a pro instructor at the Salt Lake Swimming and Tennis Club.
