Elva Salcido is the director of sports medicine at UNLV, where she leads the university’s efforts to provide exceptional healthcare and performance support for Rebel student-athletes. She’s passionate about building a culture of collaboration—bringing together athletic trainers, physicians, and performance staff to help athletes stay healthy, recover stronger, and reach their full potential.
Before joining UNLV, Elva spent nearly a decade at Mt. San Antonio College as head athletic trainer and medical director, where she modernized the program’s medical operations and led coverage for countless championship events. Her experience also extends to large-scale national and international competitions, including the USA Track & Field Olympic Trials, Mt. SAC Relays, and PAC-12 Track & Field Championships.
Beyond the sidelines, Elva has contributed to the profession through her work as a reviewer for the NATA’s Emergency Action Plan position statement and as a mentor to graduate students and emerging clinicians. She’s known for her calm leadership, her dedication to athlete-centered care, and her ability to bring people together to make sports medicine better for everyone involved.
