Phillip Haynes III

Phillip Haynes III was welcomed back as a member of the UNLV Athletics Department in the Fall of 2024, where he serves as the Director for Student-Athlete Development.

An alumnus of UNLV, Haynes III's connection to the institution is deep-rooted. As a former football team member, he understands firsthand the challenges and opportunities of being a student-athlete. This personal experience is a cornerstone of his empathetic and practical
approach to student-athlete development. As the Director for Student-Athlete Development at UNLV, Haynes III will contribute to department's efforts in career and graduate preparation, leadership development and financial education, along with alumni and community engagement programs. 

Before returning to UNLV, Haynes III was pivotal in shaping the Flight Plan program at Rice University. As the SOAR Coordinator, he spearheaded the program, an initiative designed to foster the all-around growth of student-athletes, allowing for Alston earning opportunities. His efforts were critical in establishing a framework that supported athletes in their sports and prepared them for success beyond. 

Haynes III's commitment to student-athlete development was further honed at Clemson University, where he was a fellow in the prestigious John McLendon Future Leader Fellowship. This experience allowed him to delve deeper into the intricacies of athletic programs and their intersection with educational policies, enriching his perspective and skill set.

Haynes III's professional path also includes significant experience outside the realm of athletics. His role as the Emergency Response Coordinator for the Douglas County Health Department equipped him with critical crisis management and community engagement skills, further diversifying his portfolio and enhancing his leadership capabilities.
