Taylor Covington joined UNLV Athletics in August 2024 as its Senior Associate Athletics Director/Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
Covington returned to his hometown of Las Vegas after acquiring over a decade of sports business experience as a sports business finance strategy consultant with two of the world’s leading consulting firms as well as administrative experience with Brigham Young University Athletics and West Virginia University Athletics.
Prior to his current role, Covington served as the Assistant Athletics Director for Business Operations at West Virginia from 2022-24. At WVU, he was responsible for the department’s $110+ million-dollar budget for 18 sports and 30+ cost centers, in addition to managing the department’s financial outlook and proforma, day-to-day business operations, state and foundation cash flow, capital project financing and planning, travel, charters, gameday spending, concessions, and payroll. He also served as the Interim CFO for WVU Athletics for five months.
Prior to WVU, Covington worked at BYU from 2021-22, serving in a variety of capacities as the Cougars prepared for their move to the Big 12. During that time, he managed projects around marketing, fan experience, internal operations, NIL, corporate sponsorships, analytics, and the Built for Life program.
Before working in college athletics full time, Covington was a sports business finance strategy consultant with both PwC Advisory and Deloitte Consulting. As a finance strategy consultant, he worked with both collegiate and professional sports organizations, stadium developers, sports marketing firms, as well as other sports-adjacent businesses. He also led finance and strategy projects for multiple Fortune 500 organizations where he specialized in budgeting and forecasting, operational effectiveness, and revenue generation.
Covington is very active in the college athletics community where he serves on the College Athletics Business Management Association (CABMA) Programming Committee for NACDA as well as a CABMA front-line mentor for up-and-coming business office administrators.
Covington grew up in Las Vegas, attending Palo Verde High School and beginning his college career at UNLV. He finished his undergraduate studies at BYU with a degree in economics and later returned to BYU, earning a MBA from the Marriott School of Business. He currently resides in Summerlin with his wife Jenny and four children (Leah, Chanler, Ty, and Taysom).
