COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV volleyball star Angie Sylvas (Las Vegas, NV/Cimarron-Memorial) was named the Mountain West Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Sylvas led the Rebels to back-to-back MWC victories to close the regular season this week. She posted a career-high 29 kills against Air Force and finishing with a 28-kill match to top the Lobos. She also added 30 digs on the week.
The 57 kills for the week boosted her season average to 4.25 kills per game, which now leads the MWC.
The 5-11 outside hitter is the first Rebel to capture the award this season and was the first Rebel to ever win the honor in volleyball, earning WAC Player of the Week kudos during the first week of the 1997 season.
The two victories propelled UNLV to a 12-13 mark, 4-10 in the conference and a tie for sixth place. They will open play in the Mountain West Conference tournament on Wednesday against No. 11 Colorado State at 2:00 p.m. MST in Provo, Utah.
