COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV guard Mark Dickel, a senior from Dunedin,New Zealand (Logan Park HS), is the first-ever Mountain West Conference Men?s Basketball Player of the Week after leading the Runnin? Rebels to a 2-0 start.
Dickel recorded the first-ever MWC triple-double with 17 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds in the 99-73 victory over Mississippi Valley State in the season opener last Friday. He shot 5-for-9 from the field,1-for-3 from three-point range and 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
The 12 assists tied his career-high established on March 7, 1998, vs. New Mexico. The 10 rebounds bettered his personal-high of seven recorded on Dec. 13, 1997, at Rhode Island.
Dickel became the first UNLV player to record a triple-double since Stacey Augmon accomplished the feat against Rutgers on Feb. 21, 1991.
In Sunday night?s 92-68 win over Fairfield, Dickel scored 11 points and dished out seven assists in 31 minutes. Dickel now ranks No. 5 on the UNLV all-time assist list with 515.
