LAS VEGAS - Two current bowl teams and a member of the powerful Big 12 Conference highlight UNLV's 1999 football home schedule, which was announced by the school Thursday.

After new head coach John Robinson opens his Rebel career with two games in the state of Texas, UNLV's home opener will be a historic matchup with Iowa State on September 18 at 7 p.m.

The game will mark the first in the renovated Sam Boyd Stadium, which after expansion will hold approximately 40,000 fans. It also will be the first game played on a new natural grass field and the squad's initial home contest as a member of the new eight-team Mountain West Conference.

A couple of former WAC powers and fellow MWC members will be next in with a game vs. Utah on September 25 at 7 p.m. and a clash with Liberty Bowl participant Brigham Young on October 23 at 4 p.m. The Utes have not played the Rebels since 1982 and have not appeared in Las Vegas since 1981. The Cougars, who will be the Rebels' 1999 homecoming opponent, last played UNLV at Sam Boyd Stadium in 1982.

Las Vegas Bowl participant San Diego State will return to the city on November 20 at 1 p.m. while last season's Holiday Bowl champion, Colorado State, closes out the year on November 27 at 1 p.m.

The school also announced that season tickets for 1999 are now on sale.

Sideline seats are $85 for the five-game package while end-zone seats are $50. Single-game tickets, which are priced at $12-$20, will go on sale just before the season opener. Parking at the stadium is free.

As part of the $18 million stadium renovation, the school will offer private club seating for the first time along with the opening of 16 luxury suites. The 488 club seats will feature various amenities including chair backs, food service and VIP parking for not only Rebel football, but every event held at Sam Boyd Stadium.
