Baseball Defeats Air Force 12-6

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV baseball team defeated Air Force 12-6 on Easter Sunday at Earl E. Wilson Stadium to win two out of three games in the WAC series. UNLV defeated Air Force 11-10 on Friday night and Air Force won game two, 16-12, on Saturday afternoon.

UNLV improves to 27-15 overall and 10-8 in the WAC South Division and Air Force is 11-26 overall and 5-13 in the WAC North Division.

Junior left-hander Billy Barker improved his record to 3-3 on the season with a strong outing on Sunday. He pitched 7.2 innings, allowed 6 runs (3 earned) and struck out 7. Junior right-hander Jimmy Smith recorded his seventh save with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief.

Junior third baseman Kevin Eberwein, who went 7-for-12 (.583) on the three-game series, was 3-for-4 with 2 doubles, home run and 2 RBI. He extended his hitting streak to a career-high 18 games. He leads the team with 22 doubles which ties him for second all-time in UNLV history for most doubles in a single season. The UNLV record for doubles in a season is 28 by Bill Max in 1981.

UNLV pounded out 17 hits and scored 10 or more runs for the fifth straight game and 17 total for the season.

Junior outfielder Nate Smith was 2-for-5 with 2 RBI; junior catcher Sean Campbell was 2-for-5 with 2 RBI; sophomore first baseman Tony DeMarco was 3-for-5 with 2 RBI and sophomore outfielder Ryan Ludwick was 4-for-5 with 2 RBI.

UNLV will travel to San Jose State for a WAC three-game series on Friday-Sunday, April 17-19.
