Clark Drafted by the Orlando Magic

LAS VEGAS, NV -- UNLV senior Keon Clark was selected as the No. 13 pick in the 1998 NBA Draft which was held on June, 24 in Vancouver, B.C. Keon became the first UNLV player drafted since J.R. Rider was selected in the 1993 NBA Draft (No. 5 overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves). The 6-foot-11 forward/center became UNLV's 11th all-time first round selection.

The other first round picks include: Ricky Sobers (1975, No. 16 by Phoenix Suns); Reggie Theus (1978, No. 9 by Chicago Bulls); Sidney Green (1983, No. 5 by Chicago Bulls); Anthony Jones (1986, No. 21 by Washington Bullets); Armon Gilliam (1987, No. 2 by Phoenix Suns); Larry Johnson (1991, Top pick by Charlotte Hornets); Stacey Augmon (1991, No. 9 by Atlanta Hawks); Greg Anthony (1991, No. 12 by New York Knicks); Elmore Spencer (1992, No. 25 by Los Angeles Clippers) and Rider.

Clark appeared in 39 career games (1996-98) for head coach Bill Bayno and averaged 14.8 points, 9.6 rebounds and 3.5 blocked shots. He set a UNLV single-season school record with 112 blocked shots in 1996-97. He became the first UNLV player in history to record 100 or more blocks in a season. His 138 career blocked shots ranks him fourth in UNLV all-time history. He scored a career-high 28 points against Air Force on Jan. 10, 1998, and a career-high 17 rebounds against TCU on Feb. 22, 1997, and against Arkansas in the NIT on March 19, 1997.
