The awards continue to come in for senior catcher Julie Crandall, who Wednesday was named to the All-American Third Team. Since concluding her final season with the Rebel softball team Crandall has been awarded Second Team All-WAC, First Team All-West Region and now All-America honors. This is the second time Crandall has earned Third Team All-America accolades. The first was in 1995, her freshman season when UNLV placed third at the College World Series.
Crandall led the Rebels in a number of categories in the 1998 season, including batting average (.361), home runs (9), slugging percentage (.592) and base on balls (33). Her name is plastered throughout the UNLV record books, as she ranks second in home runs (20), first in walks (111), third in both runs (127) and RBI (121), fourth in doubles (32) and hits (212) and is seventh in batting average, with a .324 career average at the plate.
