AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (AP) - Kevin Simmons scored 18 points, the last coming on a free throw with two seconds remaining, to give UNLV a 65-64 victory over Air Force on Saturday night.
Simmons scored UNLV's final seven points as the Rebels (14-7, 7-1 Western Athletic Conference) survived a late rally to beat Air Force for the eighth straight time.
Air Force (8-11,1-7) had tied the game on Dylan Pope's 3-pointer with 29 seconds left, but Simmons was fouled and hit one of two free throws. UNLV, which made just 6 of 20 foul shots, tipped away the final inbounds pass to clinch the victory.
Tyron Wright scored 29 points and David Schuck had 15 rebounds for the Falcons, who hit just 3-of-11 shots from 3-point range in the second half.
While Air Force went cold, UNLV turned a three-point halftime deficit into a 55-44 lead with 8:55 remaining, but the Falcons went on a 15-3 run to take a one-point lead with 3:21 left.
Simmons responded with six straight points sandwiched around a basket by Wright to give UNLV a 64-61 lead, setting up Pope's game-tying 3-pointer.
Brian Keefe had 11 points for UNLV, while Shawn Marion and Kaspars Kambala chipped in with 10 apiece.
