UNLV broke its five-game losing streak with a 3-2 win at #9 San Jose State Sunday afternoon in San Jose. The Rebels battled back from an early 2-1 deficit to won the game on a goal by Kiko Medina who returned this week from a three-week absence due to a knee injury.
The Spartans struck early, scoring in just the second minute of play on an Eduardo Martinez goal. The Rebels rebounded quickly however with a score at 7:35 when Michael Griego found Jason Melendez for the equalizing goal. The goal was Melendez's fourth of the season. Less than 10 minutes later it was San Jose State taking the one-goal advantage on a score by Ryan Suarez off a double assist by Martinez and Adriano Allain. The score stood at 2-1 San Jose State at the half.
The Rebels knotted the score at two eight minutes into the second half when B.J. McNicol scored an unassisted goal at 52:49. It remained a 2-2 game until Melendez found Kiko Medina for the Rebels first lead of the game and what turned out to be the game-winning-goal with 78:26 on the clock. It was Medina's second goal in as many games since returning to the lineup.
The Rebels continue their road schedule in a conference game next weekend as they take on San Diego State on Sunday at 12:00pm.
