LAS VEGAS - Right-hander Bryan Gidge tossed a two-hit shutout as the UNLV baseball team defeated Lewis-Clark State, 4-0, on Tuesday afternoon at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.
Gidge was in command throughout as he posted his first career shutout and complete game for UNLV. He didn't allow a hit for the first five innings. Third baseman Brandon O'Leary led off the sixth inning for the Warriors with a double down the right field line to break up the no-hitter.
Gidge then retired 11 of the game's final 12 batters, which included the last five. The only other hit was a single by left fielder Tad Desimone to lead off the eighth inning. Gidge struck out five and walked four as LCS was just 2-for-30 in official at-bats off the Rebel pitcher.
Three Rebel hitters went 2-for-3: left fielder Chris Adolph, centerfielder Ryan Ludwick and shortstop Eliott Sarabia.
UNLV, which improved to 3-5, began its season-long 19-game homestand on a positive note. The brief two-game series will conclude on Wednesday at 3:05 p.m. UNLV then will host 14th-ranked Cal State Fullerton on Friday-Sunday, Feb. 19-21, at Wilson Stadium.
