The Rebels won both games of a doubleheader today against non-conference opponent Western Illinois. UNLV shut out the Westerwinds in game one 4-0 then took the nightcap by way of the eight-run mercy rule to win 10-2 in the sixth.
In game one, UNLV used a three-run third inning to jump to the lead. Raven Coberg drove in two of the runs with a two-RBI single. She would finish 3-of-6 with five RBI on the day. The fourth and final run came in the fifth inning after Julie Crandall doubled to score Racheal Goodpaster, who had doubled in the previous at bat. Brandi Isgar pitched an outstanding game for her fourth shutout of the year. She scattered six hits, all singles, and struck out five. Isgar pitched another complete game in the nightcap, picking up the win and bringing her season won-loss record to 13-18. UNLV scored four runs in the first inning. Including a RBI-single by Coberg and two sacrifice flies by Isgar and Ramos. UNLV gave up runs in the first and second inning to the Westerwinds, but managed to give up just three hits in the last four innings. UNLV added two runs in the fifth and went into the bottom of the sixth with the 6-2 lead. After loading the bases with no outs Holly Killion came in relief of Vonja Olachnovitch. Killion did not fare much better as she gave up three hits in four at bats, including the double by Crandall which scored the tenth run and ended the game.
UNLV returns to conference action this weekend as the Rebels travel to Hawai'I to face the Rainbow Wahine. The two doubleheaders will be played Friday at 5:00pm and Saturday at noon.
