DALLAS, Texas - Led by junior Jeanette Graves' match-high 21 kills, the UNLV volleyball team defeated SMU 15-6, 15-13, 15-5, in a Western Athletic Conference match Saturday at Moody Coliseum.
UNLV (20-7, 9-3 WAC) was assisted in the win by junior Angie Sylvas' 17 kills and junior Christel Eves' 12 kills and match-high 15 digs. Eves had only two errors in 18 attempts for a hitting percentage of .556. Freshman Amber Graham recorded 11 kills with only two errors in 15 attempts for a hitting percentage of .600
SMU (14-14, 5-7 WAC) was led by junior Erin Pryor's team-high 14 kills. Sophomore Melissa Godwin added 11 kills, while junior Mariah Ohlsen had a team-high 12 digs.
UNLV out-hit the Mustangs .303 to .132 for the match and recorded 71 kills to SMU's 50. The Rebels out-dug SMU 59-48 and recorded 65 assists to the Mustangs' 44.
In the first game, UNLV opened up with a 7-1 lead. SMU cut it to 7-4, however the Rebels scored eight of game's final 10 points.
Trailing 10-8 in the second game, UNLV scored five-unanswered points to take a 13-10 lead. SMU tied the score at 13-13 when the Rebels pulled away with the final two points.
The Rebels took an early 7-1 lead in the third game. SMU pulled to within four points at 7-3, however UNLV ran off the next five points and eventually won the game and the match 3-0.
UNLV will return home to Lied Gymnasium to face division-leader Colorado State, Thursday, Nov. 19 at 7:00 p.m. PST. The Rebels will then battle Wyoming on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 7:00 p.m. PST at Lied Gym, before the WAC Tournament starts at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Tuesday, Nov. 24.
