Volleyball Defeats San Diego State 3-0

LAS VEGAS - Led by sophomore outside hitter Justine Kamelamela's match-high 15 kills, the UNLV volleyball team defeated San Diego State 15-3, 15-12, 15-8 in a non-conference match Saturday at Lied Gymnasium.

The Rebels, who won their ninth game of the season in only their 12th try, have already matched last season's win total when they went 9-18.

UNLV (9-3, 0-0 WAC) was assisted in the win by junior middle blocker Christel Eves, who had a near-perfect evening recording 11 kills in 18 attempts with no errors for a hitting percentage of .611. She also turned in a match-high 11 digs for the double-double. Senior setter Meri-de Boyer led the Rebels with a match-high 37 assists.

San Diego State (2-11, 0-0 WAC) was led by junior outside middle blocker Nicole Curtis' 10 kills.

The Rebels dominated from the start of the match as they out-hit the Aztecs .464 to .000 in the first game. UNLV continued to out-hit SDSU, turning in a hitting percentage of .306 for the match to the Aztecs' .087. UNLV recorded 48 kills to SDSU's 34 and out-blocked the Aztecs 11-3.

UNLV's next action will be Monday, Sept. 28 as it hosts Nevada, Reno at 7:00 p.m. at Lied Gymnasium.
