Women's Tennis Loses at USC

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The 37th-ranked UNLV women's tennis team lost three three-set singles matches en route to a 5-2 loss to No. 25 Southern California at David X. Marks Stadium Sunday.

The Lady Rebels (3-4) dropped their fourth-straight match - all to ranked teams on the road. The Women of Troy improved to 6-3.

Veronica Goude (No. 2), Gee Gee Garvin (No. 3) and Britta Gabl (No. 5) all lost in third and decisive sets to give USC a big lead. UNLV's wins came from freshman Marcella Valkenhoff, who defeated Amber Basica 6-3, 6-3 at the sixth spot, and the 10th-ranked doubles team of Garvin and Susie Kocsis, who won 9-7 over Ditta Huber and Jacqui Boyd. The final two doubles matches were not concluded.

The Lady Rebels, who are 3-0 at the Fertitta Tennis Complex this year, open an eight-match homestand by facing No. 15 Notre Dame on March 10.
