LAS VEGAS - All 16 members of a UNLV search committee met Monday morning on campus for the first time, signaling the beginning of a process that will bring the school its eighth-ever head football coach. UNLV President Dr. Carol C. Harter, who is a member of the committee, addressed the gathering.
"President Harter hosted the group for an hour and a half and expressed how UNLV is committed to getting the best possible candidate to lead our football program as it moves into the Mountain West Conference," UNLV Director of Athletics Charles Cavagnaro said. "It allowed us all the opportunity to sit down, get to know each other, and get the process in motion."
The committee includes campus leaders, members of football support groups and distinguished business leaders from throughout Las Vegas.
"The quality of this committee shows how high a priority football is at this university and in this community," Cavagnaro said.
Cavagnaro earlier announced that he hoped the school would name a new head coach by Christmas.
