LAS VEGAS - Men's tennis players from 20 teams throughout the West will converge on the campus of UNLV for the 1998 ITA Region VII Championships beginning Wednesday.
The 128-player singles draw and 64-team doubles draw will play out over five days on 12 courts at the Fertitta Tennis Complex with the finals scheduled for Sunday. There will be a consolation draw in singles to ensure each entrant at least two matches. Singles and doubles winners earn a spot in February's National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in Dallas, Texas.
UNLV will have six singles entries and three doubles teams playing, including the 25th-ranked duo of Nenad Zivkovic and Gregor Skorin.
Other schools sending competitors are New Mexico State, Idaho, Air Force, UNR, BYU, New Mexico, Fresno State, Weber State, Eastern Washington, Northern Arizona, Boise State, University of Denver, Idaho State, Utah State, Texas-El Paso, Montana State, Montana, Utah and San Diego State.
First-round matches begin at 8 a.m. and run throughout the day. Admission to all matches is free of charge.
