AUSTIN, Texas - It was good news and bad news for UNLV tennis in the first round of the 1998 ITA All-American Men's Tennis Championships held at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center Thursday.

Asaf Tishler, ranked 27th nationally, upset No. 13-ranked Doug Root of Duke in three sets, 6-7, 6-4, 6-1. The Rebel senior moves on to Friday's second round to face 11th-ranked Jean-Noel Grinda of UCLA.

However, in doubles play, the 25th-ranked team of sophomores Gregor Skorin and Nenad Zivkovic lost in the first round to Stanford's top duo, Ryan Wolters and KJ Hippensteel, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.
