Punter Earns WAC Honor

September 28, 1998

LAS VEGAS - UNLV punter Joe Kristosik has been named the WAC Special Teams Player of the Week for the Mountain Division, the conference announced Monday.

Kristosik punted seven times for an average of 51.3 yards per kick at Colorado State this past Saturday. The senior had two kicks longer than 60 yards and a 59-yarder that was downed at the Rams' one-yard line and led to the Rebels' first defensive safety since 1993.

For the season, the Bishop Gorman High School graduate and Las Vegas native leads the league and is sixth nationally with a 47.0 average.

The award marks the fourth time that a UNLV player has been named conference player of the week since the school joined the WAC in 1996. However, Kristosik is the first UNLV punter to earn a player-of-the-week honor since UNLV first joined a conference in 1982.
