GAME PREVIEWUNLV (0-2, 0-1) looks for its first win of the season by visiting No. 14-ranked Wisconsin (2-0, 0-0) ... The Rebels will play their second Big-Ten team in three weeks after opening the season with a 41-7 loss at Northwestern on Sept. 5 ... UNLV fell in its home and conference opener last week, 52-10, to Air Force ... The Badgers continued their climb up the national polls with a 45-0 shut out of visiting Ohio ... The Rebels, who have been banged up to start the year, may have to do without their top receiver -- school-record holder Damon Williams -- who is questionable with a thigh bruise ... UW will be the first ranked team UNLV has faced since losing 63-28 at then-No. 19 BYU in 1996 ... The Rebels have faced nine ranked teams in their Division I-A history and hold a 1-8 record in such games ... The school's only win vs. a ranked squad was a 45-41 upset victory over then-No. 8 BYU on Sept. 10, 1981.
SERIES NOTESThis will mark the fourth-ever meeting between the two schools ... Wisconsin holds a 2-1 series lead ... UNLV lost its only previous visit to Madison ... UW is the only Big Ten team the Rebels have ever defeated ... Former Rebel coach Brian White, who was a member of UNLV coach Jeff Horton's 1994 league-championship staff, is in his fourth season as the Badgers' running backs coach ... Horton has twice faced UW, including a 1993 trip to Madison as head man at Nevada, Reno ... The teams are slated to continue their inter-regional rivalry with the Badgers returning to Las Vegas in 2003 and the Rebels playing in Madison in 2004 ... Current State of Nevada University Regent and Las Vegas business leader Tom Wiesner, who lettered for the Badgers in 1958-60, organized an airline charter trip separate from the team that will bring more than 100 fans to Madison for this weekend's game as part of what is being billed as Rebel-Badger Weekend.

UNLV HEAD COACH JEFF HORTONJeff Horton, who turned 41 this summer, is in his fifth season at the helm of the Rebel football program and sixth as a Div. I-A head coach. The seventh head man in UNLVs 30 years of football history, Horton has a career record of 20-39 and 13-35 for the Rebels. Facing a half-decade in charge, Horton will tie original coach Bill Ireland (1968-72) for second-longest stint leading UNLV football. Only Tony Knap (1976-81) coached the Rebels longer. Named the 1994 Big West Co-Coach of the Year after leading UNLV to its second-ever league title and bowl win, Horton graduated from Nevada, Reno in 1981 and later received his masters from the Univ. of San Francisco. He came to Las Vegas after spending the 1993 season as head coach of UNR, where he also had been assistant coach from 1985-89 and 92. Horton also served a stint as a UNLV assistant from 1990-91. Born July 13, 1957, Horton is married to the former Teri Arden of Reno.

UW HEAD COACH BARRY ALVAREZNow in his ninth season as head coach of Wisconsin, Barry Alvarez has a career record of 51-41-4 in Madison. Alvarez, 51, built the Badgers from a last-place team in 1990 (1-10 overall) to a national power that has four bowl visits in the past five seasons. A three-year letterman as a linebacker at Nebraska, he is a two-time graduate from the school. Born in Burgettstown, Pa., Alvarez began his college coaching career as an assistant at Iowa (1979-86). He moved to Notre Dame in 1987 and became defensive coordinator of the Irish one year later under Lou Holtz. Alvarez took over Wisconsin on Jan. 2, 1990, just after ND defeated Colorado to win the national championship. He is 1-0 vs. UNLV and 2-0 vs. Jeff Horton.
