LAS VEGAS - UNLV wide receiver Damon Williams, who is tied for the school's career receptions record with 156, leads a group of Rebels who have earned preseason honors this summer.

Williams and fellow seniors tight end Sam Mineo and defensive end Talance Sawyer are the consensus picks at their positions for first-team All-WAC in 1998.

Williams, who became the school's first offensive player to win first-team All-WAC honors, has been named preseason honorable mention All-America by The Sporting News, Street & Smith's and College Sports News. He was tabbed to the first-team all-league list by The Sporting News, Football News, Street & Smith's, Lindy's, Preview Sports, Bob Griese's College Football and College & Pro Football Newsweekly.

Saywer, who earned all-league kudos last season after leading the conference in tackles-for-loss, was named preseason honorable mention All-America by The Sporting News and first-team All-WAC by six publications.

Mineo, who was second-team All-WAC in 1997, earned preseason first-team billing by seven publications this summer.

Also garnering honors were senior offensive lineman Mike Reily, who was named first-team on one list and second-team on two others, and senior linebacker Greg Gales, who was named first-team All-WAC by Preview Sports.
