LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The UNLV volleyball program has signed Nikki King to a national letter of intent for the 2001 season as announced by UNLV head coach Deitre Collins on Monday. King is a 5-9 setter from Desert Vista High School in Phoenix, Ariz.
Prior to joining the Rebels, King will continue to develop her skills playing for the Arizona Juniors club team.
King was named All-Conference and All-Region last season in Arizona while helping her team to the state playoffs. Her high school team was ranked nationally in the preseason top ten.
"Nikki played for an obscure club last year," said UNLV head coach Deitre Collins. "Were excited to have her joining the team. She will compete with Julia (Goes), who will be a senior next year, for the starting setter spot. It will be nice to have someone to groom for the starting spot in 2002. She's a very competitive player will all-around skills. She's been able to help her team out all over the court, but she will be focusing on setting from this point on."
