COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV junior right-handed pitcher Luke Anderson (Las Vegas, NV/Green Valley HS) has been chosen the Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Anderson wins the award on the heels of perhaps his best performance in a Rebel uniform. In his first career start, he led UNLV to its first victory of the season, a 3-1 decision over Saint Mary's. Anderson pitched 7.2 innings, struck out 11 batters and allowed just two hits and no earned runs.
It is the first time in the junior's career he has captured the award after spending two seasons as a relief pitcher for UNLV.
Behind Anderson's pitching, the Rebels rebounded from losses in the first two games of their series with Saint Mary's with their win in the series finale. They will test their 1-2 record next on Friday in the first of a two-game series with Southern Utah. The first pitch is slated for 3:05 p.m. at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.
