LAS VEGAS - Three of last year's bowl teams, a member of the powerful Big 12 Conference and the annual Battle for Nevada highlight UNLV's 2000 football schedule, which was released by the school Friday.
Rebel head coach John Robinson will open his second season at UNLV with a non-conference battle at Big 12 member Iowa State on Sept. 9. The home slate will kick off with a visit from North Texas on Sept. 16, a team that UNLV defeated in last year's season opener for Robinson's first victory at the school.
A game at 1999 Motor City Bowl competitor BYU will open the conference schedule on Sept. 23 while Air Force comes to town on Sept. 30 for UNLV's first league home game. The 26th Battle for Nevada will be waged Oct. 7 when Nevada, Reno travels to Sam Boyd Stadium on a special UNLV Athletics Hall of Fame Weekend.
Two MWC games - at Liberty Bowl competitor Colorado State on Oct. 14 and vs. Wyoming on Oct. 21 - will follow. UNLV then faces a Southeastern Conference team for only the second time in history with a trip to Mississippi on Oct. 28. The historic meeting of the two Rebel programs comes with Ole Miss boasting an Independence Bowl victory and a final national ranking of 22.
UNLV continues on the road for a second consecutive week for the only time during 2000 with a game at Utah on Nov. 4. A home game with New Mexico is next up and will be followed by an off week. The season closes on the road for the first time since 1996 with a conference matchup at San Diego State on Nov. 25.
Season tickets are now on sale. Prices remain the same with $85 on the sidelines and $50 for end-zone seating. Individual tickets for all games but UNR will be available for $22 on the sidelines and $12 in the end zones. Individual tickets for the Battle for Nevada during Hall of Fame Weekend are $27 for sidelines and $17 for end zones.
