Baseball Dropped By West Virginia, 15-6

Feb. 27, 2000

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV baseball team dropped its final game in the Coors Desert Classic Sunday, falling to West Virginia 15-6 at Wilson Stadium.

The Mountaineers (1-7) jumped out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the first off UNLV (5-13) starter Chad Harris, and never looked back.

Down 7-2, UNLV rallied for three runs in the fifth on a 2-RBI single by Tony DeMarco. WVU turned to the bullpen and reliever David Maust, who then shut down the Rebel order over the last five innings of the game.

The Mountaineers continued to pour on the offense, scoring four in the seventh and four in the ninth to stratch their lead to 15-5. The Rebels got one back in the bottom of the inning, but it was hardly enough to overcome the 10-run deficit.

Junior Adam Manley hit his first home run of the year, a solo shot in the fourth, and Denny Seybert went 3-for-5 at the plate.

The Rebels prepare for their second road trip of the year, heading to South Carolina to face No. 9 Clemson in a three-game series beginning Friday, March 3.
